Asbestos Awareness week is here, so it’s time to reflect on how we can all improve the safety of our people on site.
Asbestos related diseases still rank as the top workplace killer in New Zealand, with around 200 deaths each year. We can do better. We must do better.
ARCA has been working tirelessly for over 40 years to improve the safety of the Asbestos Industry in the UK and ARCA NZ is utilising that valuable experience and knowledge to increase asbestos awareness in New Zealand.
Asbestos Awareness training is mandatory for relevant workers working in buildings where asbestos is or may be present, in accordance with the Health & Safety at work regulations 2015, Health and Safety at Work (General Risk and Workplace Management) Regulations 2016; and the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) regulations 2016.
This includes electricians, plumbers, roofers, builders, maintenance workers and any subcontractors that work at your premises. If you’re a PCBU, you need to ensure that your workers are safe and compliant.
This year, ARCA NZ would like to extend an offer to industry associations in New Zealand to assist you in ensuring that your members are compliant with the current regulations.
We’re therefore providing 10,000 Asbestos Awareness training courses free of charge to organisations that are committed to implementing positive change.
Let’s work together to reduce the toll that asbestos takes on our tradespeople here in New Zealand. We’re working hard to ensure our members have all the tools they need to keep their workers safe on site, and armed with the knowledge skills they need when encountering asbestos.
